Situated on a site with breathtaking mountain views, the existing home was originally built during the speculative boom of the seventies and eighties. The client wanted to reinvent his crafting native stone and timber to create a mountain estate with a rugged feel and warmth of a lodge. The house grew in virtually every direction. The roof and many of the exterior walls were removed and the kitchen was enlarged with an informal eating alcove added. The living room stair and entry way were reframed using structural mortise and tennon timber framing. The timber framing extends down a widened central hall and ends in the master suite addition. Decks wrap the southwest side of the house and overlook a boulder-framed mountainside pool. |
